New Adventures (in the states)

Well hello there! It's been a while...

I know I've been gone for a few months, but trust me when I say that nothing really exciting has happened in most of the time I've been gone. Since moving back to the states, I've been spending a lot of time readjusting to my life here, including getting my job back, getting a US phone number again, and reconnecting with friends and family here.

So far everything has been going well, things really haven't changed much in the time I was gone, which is comforting, but also disconcerting. I feel like I changed so much in the year and a half I was in Europe, and yet I've come back to things being almost identical to the way I left them. This is good and bad. Good because I know exactly how everything works here and where to find it, bad because I'm already feeling stuck here again. To combat feeling stuck, I'm spending all my money on travel (so really, nothing has changed).

I've got not one, but TWO trips to London booked for this year! I'll be back in September when my sister will begin her masters degree at KCL, and then in December when I'll fly over with my parents and we'll spend a week in London then head to Tenerife for a nice little warm up. Needless to say I'm counting down the days for both trips. I'm also going to be taking a road trip to Los Angeles this month when my friend Cameron flies in! Should be a good trip seeing as I've never been to California (and neither has he!) More on that trip will be in the next post along with plenty of pictures of the beach and ocean).

But for now, I wanted to share a little about the last trip I took. I was speaking to one of my friends in London, and as I was complaining about being in the states and being so far from good places to visit, she told me that I should take this opportunity and explore more of the country I'm from. I've lived in the states for 24 years and had never been to New York or California. But now that's changed!

A few weeks ago I flew to New York and spent two weeks driving around the east coast. In 14 days I visited 10 states (and Canada!) and saw so much of the Eastern US. Okay guys, how had I never been to the Northeast before?? New York City and Boston were amazing cities and I had the time of my life there, but there's something to be said for the overall feel of New England. Each state had such a different vibe, driving through them was almost like driving to different countries. New Hampshire was quiet and laid back, whereas Maryland was bright and loud. Ohio was flat and sunny, and Pennsylvania had amazing colored forests the entire way. Every city was so different, and it was so cool seeing cities like Cleveland and Pittsburgh and Baltimore and DC.

I could go on for hours about my trip, but it mostly did a good job of reminding me that there's still plenty for me to explore here in the states while I figure out what I'm going to do with my life next. It was also great to see some familiar faces from London and to spend some much needed time with them.

Oh, and what do you think of the new layout here? Figured it was time for an update :)
